Reminder About Unemployment Insurance Extension and Job Center in Monroe -

Just a reminder that Wisconsin, as a part of a Federal move, has extended our Unemployment Insurance for an additional 13 weeks for those recently laid off. In addition, former plans by the Department of Workforce Development (DWD) to close 22 job centers around the state, including one in Monroe, have been abandoned and the centers will stay open. Finally, a reminder that DWD has launched a new job website designed to help connect employers with potential employees. The site is: http://www.jobcenterofwisconsin.com

 

Trumpeter Swans and Osprey May Be ReclassifiedOn October 20 the Department of Natural Resources will hold a hearing relating to the trumpeter swan and osprey at 4 p.m. in Room G09, Natural Resources State Office Building, 101 South Webster St., Madison (Entrance at the Webster Street door only). Tainted Candy Found in Wisconsin

Although Wisconsin was not listed on the published list of states to have received candy made in China known to contain melamine; the candy has been found in Wisconsin grocery stores. Stores in Eau Claire, Sheboygan, Wausau, as well as at a grocery store distribution center have been found to have the tainted candy. The brand name “White Rabbit” candy should be thrown out or taken back to the purchased store for refund. No illnesses related to the candy have been reported. Nominees Sought for Statewide Women’s Business Award –

Nominations are open for the 2009 Governor’s Trailblazer Awards for Women in Business. This biennial award is offered to eligible Wisconsin, women-owned businesses that have been in operation for 25 years of more, and generational businesses now run by women, visit the website at http://womenscouncil.wi.gov

 

Sigma Aldrich Receives Enterprise Development Zone Tax Credits

SAFC, Inc received $292,500 in Enterprise Development Zone tax credits for a Verona expansion project. SAFC Inc is a developer and manufacturer of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients for the pharmaceutical industry. Currently SAFC has four Wisconsin locations including one in the UW Research Park – the Verona project will expand that operation. The grant will retain 75 jobs and is planned to add 45 jobs. Senator Erpenbach and Governor Doyle attended the grant ceremony.

 

Farm Mediation, Arbitration Program Calls for New Mediator Candidates

The Wisconsin Farm Mediation Arbitration Program, which provides services to farmers involved with agricultural business disputes, is calling for applications to fill volunteer mediator positions. For more information call 608-224-5052.
