Flooding in South Central WisconsinThere are numerous areas of flooding with damage to homes, roads, crops and land in the 27th Senate District. Wisconsin Emergency Management Major Highway Closures –The Wisconsin Department of Transportation and State Patrol have closed I-39 northbound, I-90/94 westbound at US 151 (Exit 135 - Madison) due to rising water at I-90/94 westbound at the Baraboo River (WIS 33).

The following interstates remain closed:
> I-90/94 eastbound at WIS 82 in Juneau County
> I-39 southbound at WIS 82 in Marquette County
> I-94 westbound at the Crawfish River bridge west of Johnson Creek

Motorists traveling between the Twin Cities and Chicago should use I-94 to WIS 29 to I-43 to I-94. Motorists wanting to travel to the Northwoods from Chicago should use I-94 to I-43 to WIS 29 to I-39. Motorists are strongly advised not to travel in the south-central part of Wisconsin due to many flooded state and local highways. Emergency information for the public is also available on the State Emergency Operations Center Message Service at 608-242-3059. This line will be updated every two hours or as necessary.

Grants and Loans for Home Repair for Low Income and Elderly – The USDA Rural Development is offering help to homeowners with needed home improvements. There are income limits and only people over 62 qualify, but the grants of $7,500 can be a good opportunity if a family member or neighbor needs a wheelchair ramp or has safety issues in their home that should be addressed. In addition, loans of up to $20,000 with a 1% interest rate can also be applied for to improve weatherization, furnace, electrical, plumbing, roof and other exterior issues.
