State Budget Repair Still Unresolved – Despite efforts from both Legislative leaders, talks on the state budget repair bill have not finished. While major topics have been resolved, it is reported that there are disagreements with Governor Doyle and members in both houses on transportation funding, the amount of tobacco securitization, and a one week delay on school aid payments. Get the latest information online at the WisPolitics Budget Blog http://blogs.wispolitics.com/budget.html. Major highway projects that are a part of the May “lets” cannot be put out for bid without finalization of the budget repair. Senator Erpenbach wants to move ahead as quickly as possible to avoid delays in highway improvements and is concerned that if we miss the transportation deadline of next week, we may not get a budget repair done until into fall. The Legislature is not currently in regular session because the campaign cycle begins on June 1st. Other unresolved issues include a resolution on the Great Lakes Compact (which will happen eventually) and a Special Session on Campaign Finance Reform (which will likely not see any action).
