Erpenbach on National ‘Air Americans’ Radio Show Tonight to Discuss ‘Healthy Wisconsin’

Support Continues to Grow for Plan to Reduce Health Care Costs, Provide Coverage for All

Madison – State Senator Jon Erpenbach (D-Middleton) will appear on this evening’s nationally-broadcast “Air Americans” program on the Air America Radio Network to talk about the Senate Democrats’ “Healthy Wisconsin” plan to provide affordable health care coverage to Wisconsin. Erpenbach’s appearance with guest host Lee Rayburn will be broadcast live beginning at 9:00 p.m.

“We have a historic opportunity in Wisconsin to make health care affordable and accessible to all,” said Erpenbach, Senate Health and Human Service Chair and architect of the “Healthy Wisconsin” plan. “‘Healthy Wisconsin’ gives you the same quality health care your state legislators will have.”

The Senate Democrats’ “Healthy Wisconsin” plan ensures all Wisconsin residents and employees would be covered under the same benefits received by members of the state legislature, regardless of preexisting conditions. A payroll deduction similar to Social Security of $370 a month for the average employer and $140 for the average employee will be used to pay for coverage.

“People are saying ‘enough is enough’ when it comes to reckless profiteering of drug and insurance companies,” said Erpenbach. “The positive response about the massive savings ‘Healthy Wisconsin’ provides for consumers, businesses and local governments is exciting.”

Under “Healthy Wisconsin,” there are no co-pays for preventive care and chronic disease management with participation in continuing treatment. The plan includes prescription drug coverage, mental health parity and preventive dental care for children. New Glarus Brewery President Deb Carey called the plan part of a “commonsense revolution,” while Mike Rayome of the 800-employee Graphic Packaging in Wausau said “Healthy Wisconsin” would save his company $4.4 million a year.
