Erpenbach Resolution Honors All of Wisconsin’s Active Duty Military Personnel

‘We Honor the Men and Women of Wisconsin Called to Active Duty,’ Says Erpenbach

Madison –State Sen. Jon Erpenbach (D-Middleton) commended the State Senate for passing a resolution today honoring the men and women of Wisconsin who have been called to active duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“Our men and women putting who have put their lives on the line deserve our thanks, our recognition and our respect,” said Erpenbach. “The State Senate honors the thousands called to active duty who have made us so proud with their service.”

The text of Erpenbach’s Resolution:

Whereas, thousands of citizens of the State of Wisconsin have faithfully and dutifully fulfilled their military commitment while being deployed to active military duty in Iraq and Afghanistan; and

Whereas, of the thousands of Wisconsin residents who are serving or have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, many are now doing or have completed their second and third tours in Iraq and/or Afghanistan; and

Whereas, many Wisconsin service members have returned from their tours in Iraq and Afghanistan having been wounded, some suffering from traumatic brain injuries, traumatic amputations and acute post-traumatic stress disorders; and

Whereas, many Wisconsin service members returning home from their tours in Iraq and Afghanistan have been awarded Silver Stars, Bronze Stars and Purple Hearts; and

Whereas, these citizens have done so with the unending support of their families and loved ones who remain behind in their absence, with those loved ones, friends and the communities nurturing the young children left behind, supporting the spouses left to care for families on their own, and caring for the parents, siblings and other relatives and concerned individuals who are left behind with concern and worry; and

Whereas, these Wisconsin citizens have come from every walk of life: teachers, police officers, convenience store clerks to state government cabinet secretaries – all resolutely fulfilling their duty, often suffering in adverse living conditions, facing the dangers of war every minute of their day, often times at reduced pay than they would have been receiving at their regular jobs at home; and

Whereas, every Wisconsin citizen who has served, who is serving, or who will be deployed in the future to active military duty in Iraq or Afghanistan deserves the respect and gratitude of the people of Wisconsin, now, therefore: be it

Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend every Wisconsin resident for their service in active military duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.
