DOT Consultant to Look at Highway 14 Flooding
Madison...Flooding along Highway 14 in the Spring Green - Lone Rock area will be part of a consulting engineering study that the Wisconsin Department of Transportation will order this year, according to State Senator Dale Schultz.
Schultz said he was recently assured by DOT representatives that the engineering study will look into the flood events of June 7-8 and June 12-13 for a dozen or so locations in the south half of Wisconsin, including the segment of Hwy 14 from approximately Highway 130 in Lone Rock to Highway 23 in Spring Green.
While the full scope of the study is still being determined, Schultz was notified that the study will review the Department's design standards pertaining to hydraulic design and watershed areas encompassing the flooding area. The study will also make recommendations for improvements, if warranted, according to Ian Winger, Project Development Supervisor in the DOT's La Crosse office.
While improvements can't come fast enough for flood victims along Highway 14, Schultz is thanking Governor Jim Doyle and his administration for hearing the pleas of residents, farmers and business owners, many still facing standing water, and are moving forward with investigations.
