Schultz: Involve Local Decision Makers in Wind Power Decisions
Madison… The State Senate knocked the wind out of a brisk moving proposal to expand the state’s role in deciding where wind turbines are built, according to Senator Dale Schultz. Schultz, a proponent of alternative energy and wind power, joined a bipartisan coalition of senators in blocking the bill, citing concern with the lack of public input and cooperation with local governments.
Schultz said enacting policies that help achieve state alternative energy production goals is among his top priorities. Schultz noted that he is working across Wisconsin’s southwest region to boost its image as the state’s energy region and sees the bill as a barrier, not progress.
Schultz said concerns with siting wind turbines are similar those he heard while leading a state effort to make uniform policies in locating large farming operations.
