Schultz backs renewable motor fuels bill
Bipartisan bill boosts ethanol and biodiesel
Madison – Wisconsin drivers would increase their use of renewable motor vehicle fuels under a bill Senator Dale Schultz is supporting in the state legislature. Schultz (R-Richland Center) said the bill requires ten percent of motor fuels sold in Wisconsin come from renewable sources starting in 2009 and the renewable fuel requirement would increase to 25 percent by 2025.
Schultz said the bill provides motor fuel sellers the ability to offer a range of renewable fuel options, including soy-based biodiesel and E-85 (85 percent ethanol) to meet the ten percent total renewable standard. Schultz said in the face of rising energy prices, this bill is a necessary component of a broader energy strategy that also employs conservation efforts and increased use of other energy sources including wind, solar and methane.
Schultz is optimistic about the bill because it has broad bipartisan support and it resolves concerns about the renewable fuel standards bill he championed last session that would have required regular unleaded gasoline contain ten percent ethanol.
