Senator Leibham’s Bill to Honor Wisconsin’s 57th Field Artillery
Brigade is Signed into Law
STATE CAPITOL — State Senator Joe Leibham (R-Sheboygan) issued the following statement after his bill to designate State Highway 57 as the “57th Field Artillery Brigade Memorial Highway” was signed into law yesterday by Governor Jim Doyle:
“I am honored that the veterans of the Wisconsin National Guard Enlisted Association have asked me to lead this legislative effort on their behalf.
“I am pleased this legislation received bi-partisan support to honor Wisconsin’s very own 57th Field Artillery Brigade. Their proud heritage, and service to our State and Country, from the Civil War to their current mission in Afghanistan, deserves this recognition.
“We are indebted to all of our veterans for allowing us to enjoy the liberties and freedoms we have today. It is our duty, not only as legislators, but as citizens, to recognize their service and express our gratitude any way we can. By allowing the designation of this highway, citizens will be reminded of the service and of the sacrifice of the 57th Field Artillery Brigade.
“On behalf of all veterans, I will continue to do my part and work diligently with legislators on both sides of the aisle to ensure we will continue to honor all those who choose to serve.”
Senate Bill 234 will mark the entire route of State Highway 57 from Sister Bay to Milwaukee as the “57th Field Artillery Brigade Memorial Highway.”
