Statement on So-Called Budget Repair/Stimulus Bill
“No matter what the Democrats call it, this bill is neither a ‘budget repair’ nor an ‘economic stimulus.’ This bill is all about raising taxes as soon as possible to feed more government spending for years to come without cutting a dime from the state budget today.
“As a so-called budget repair bill, it misses the mark by covering only $183 million of a $600 million hole.
“As a so-called economic stimulus bill, it fares even worse by raising taxes on the businesses that create jobs and on working people in need of opportunities and tax relief.
“All our actions in this economic climate need to be judged through the prism of whether they will create jobs and grow our economy. Today’s bill fails that test.”
